A lovely afternoon with artist Harry
Harry this afternoon we spent lots of time together, I really enjoyed being alongside you in your exploration.
I found you close to the junk modelling we had been creating on a large scale. You told me you needed to wash your hands, I could see specks of paint on them from when you had first arrived at nursery, I could tell having paint on your hands was making you feel worried. I reassured you that having paint on your hands was okay, that I had recognised you were busy and that it was something that would always wash off when you were ready. You appeared to appreciate my words of reassurance and nodded. ‘In that case shall we paint more?’ I questioned, you nodded.
We set up a paint station just for you, you started by covering the boxes, you covered them completely. Black paint etched onto the ends of your fingers. You slowly started to paint the rest of your hands, enveloping. Exploring amounts of paint in correlation to the surface area of your hands and arms, a mathematician at work. You used a variety of tools, rollers, brushes even your fingers! You decided from this you would in fact like to paint a picture…I supported this by attaching paper to our radiator.
As I watched you paint I realised your painting was rhythmic. You used two brushes simultaneously and created a rhythm similar to that of a drum. You started to hum a tune as you painted, deep level learning, high levels of wellbeing and involvement, it was wonderful to see. Feeling more comfortable in your learning you stopped and started laughing ‘look at that…two mouths’ pointing to the marks you’d made with paint.
