Many practitioners tell us that observation, assessment, and planning can feel overwhelming — especially when there’s pressure to record learning rather than truly understand it.
This online practice clinic, led by highly experienced nursery practitioners, is designed to help you slow down, think deeply, and make sense of what you notice in children’s play and everyday activity.
Rather than focusing on formats or paperwork, we’ll work together to explore how thoughtful observation can meaningfully inform teaching and practice.
The session will focus on:
-
Understanding children’s learning through a theoretical lens
-
Making sense of observations using child development frameworks
-
Writing observations that genuinely inform practice, not just record it
-
Identifying next steps that thoughtfully extend learning opportunities
-
Aligning reflective practice clearly and confidently with the EYFS
Practitioners are invited to bring along a short narrative observation — simply a description of something a child has been doing. Together, we’ll explore how that observation can be interpreted, deepened, and used to support children’s learning in meaningful, intentional ways.
This is a collaborative, supportive space — a chance to pause, reflect, and reconnect with why we observe in the first place.
