Pen Green Ofsted
Pen Green Centre staff, governors, children and families are absolutely
delighted to announce that our maintained nursery school has received an
Outstanding grading from Ofsted. It is absolutely fabulous that Pen Green has
been recognised as Outstanding by Ofsted once again.
Pen Green is a fully integrated early years provision offering early years
education and care and nursery school provision alongside health, family
support and adult education. Due to the integrated work of the centre, Pen
Green is subject to three Ofsted inspections. The centre, opened in 1983,
celebrates its 40 th anniversary this year and has consistently received
Outstanding in all Ofsted judgements.
The Joint Heads of Centre Tracy Gallagher and Angela Prodger said that this is
down to the dedication and hard work of staff and governors to get it right for
children and families and to make a difference to children’s outcomes. A
parent told one of the HMIs that ‘The staff are amazing, and you can tell that
they are there because they love what they do.’ The inspectors reported that
‘Leaders and staff build strong relationships with families before a child joins
the school and leaders value the strong partnerships they have built with
families. Parents say that ‘they feel well supported and they know where to
seek help.’ In the feedback session the lead inspector said that staff’s passion
oozes from the walls. The Joint Heads said that they both feel immensely
proud of the outcome, it was an intense day and a very different inspection
process to previous years.
The Ofsted report shows that:
‘Children are thriving at this friendly, welcoming school. Staff show great care
for children because they want the best for them’.
‘Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) access the
same ambitious curriculum as their peers’.
‘Governors understand the school’s strengths and promote an ethos of
continuous improvement’.
‘There is a strong culture of safeguarding. Leaders work well with external
agencies to provide additional help when needed. Record keeping is
comprehensive’.
The chair of Governors, Adam Cooper on reading the report sent a message to
all staff to say “My wholehearted appreciation. Take all the credit. You have
earned every ounce of it.”
