What is it like to study at Pen Green?

My Study Experience at Pen Green

Studies completed from 2015-2019;

Foundation Degree,

BA (Hons) Top-up

Early Years Initial Teacher Training (EYITT).

I have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my study, from the friendliness of the initial enquiry day to my graduation. The staff have been everything from experts in their field to personal counsellors when things get too much or you just need a pep talk.

The transition from going back to study after a long period out of school to the push for you to do your best and challenge yourself was a gradual one, and the tutors build your confidence through honest feedback that challenges you to reflect on your study and learning journey. I feel the personal approach to tutoring and the way the content of the course is delivered over study blocks makes the process easier to get your teeth into and allowed me to submerged myself into the theory and study week  without having to juggle work and study every week, like at other universities.

The content of the courses was really interesting and all theory was able to be linked to our current professional roles. The content of the course not only made me reflect on my role as an early years professional, but as a mother, my family history and who I am and why.

The journey of discovery about myself was not one I was expecting, or sometimes easy, but the one that has positively impacted me more than I ever imagined.

I started my journey with a clear plan of becoming a teacher, having worked as a Teaching Assistant for 12 years, but my study experience has made me confirm my early years passion and go back to working in a nursery with the youngest of children, building those important foundations. I am continuing to research theories I found interesting whilst studying and hopefully return to do my Master’s Degree at some point in the future.

I can not recommended Pen Green highly enough.  Studying there is an experience like no other which ignites passion, discovery and understanding through constant reflection of ourselves, others and the families we work with.
