Welcome to Pen Green Nursery school. We are a maintained nursery school within the Pen Green Centre for Children and their Families. We offer 240 free nursery places for children aged three and four years. The nursery school is open as a year round provision from 8am – 6pm. The nursery school also offers places for two years that are eligible for the free entitlement.
In the nursery school we have 3 unique spaces: Den, Snug and Studio, all offering high quality early education with care. The environments are set up as workshop areas where all children are encouraged to independently access resources to support their learning and development.
Pen Green Nursery school has consistently been judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.
All staff in the nursery are committed to offering the highest quality early learning and teaching opportunities to all children. The nursery environment is well resourced with exciting, stimulating and challenging experiences for children to access as they choose. Staff plan for individual learning and development based on the child’s interests. Through direct observation and reflection as a nursery team, staff are able to offer a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum to meet the needs of all children who attend.
All children in the nursery have a keyworker (Family Worker) who will support children’s emotional and cognitive needs. They will also be committed to building up trusting and reciprocal relationships with parents/carers. Staff in the nursery are responsive, deeply reflective and choose to engage with children in a way that offers continuity and matches the child’s preferred learning style. All family workers closely observe children and document the child’s learning in a ‘celebration of achievements’ file.
As a nursery school within an integrated centre we are deeply committed to working with parents and acknowledge that knowledge sharing with parents is very powerful and has a last impact on children’s outcomes. Parents are encouraged to engage in their child’s learning through daily dialogue with staff, sharing information from home, attending study groups and accessing their child’s on-line learning journal.
