Using Schema Theory to help Practitioners understand the Conceptual Development of Mathematics

An evidence informed approach to develop practitioner knowledge of schema theory to enable them to recognise, support and ultimately challenge children’s emerging mathematical development.

Fully Funded through the Stronger Practice Hub for settings and childminders Leicester, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, North and West Northamptonshire, and Rutland.

Aim of the Programme

Are you passionate about supporting children’s early mathematical thinking through play? This evidence-informed professional development programme from the Pen Green Centre offers early years practitioners the opportunity to explore how schema theory can unlock a deeper understanding of children’s mathematical development.

Through a blend of inspiring training days, supportive online sessions, and hands-on child studies, participants will learn to identify the rich mathematical ideas emerging in children’s play—and plan meaningful opportunities that stretch and challenge their learning.

The programme has been designed by drawing on high-quality evidence and the expertise of the team at The Pen Green Centre.
