SUMMARY:There the Dance Is: A Two-Part Webinar Series with Professor Sam Wass
DESCRIPTION:How do adults recognise when a child is ready to engage\, beginning to drift\, or becoming overwhelmed? \nIn this two-part webinar series\, Professor Sam Wass explores attention and regulation as shared\, relational processes shaped through moment-by-moment interactions between children and adults. \nDrawing on developmental research and real-world early years practice\, these sessions will consider how practitioners adapt their voice\, pace\, timing\, movement and presence in response to children’s changing states and how these subtle shifts can support or disrupt engagement\, attention and emotional regulation. \nRather than viewing attention or regulation as something children simply possess individually\, these webinars invite us to think about the dynamic “dance” that happens between children and the adults around them. \nThe series will explore:\n• Co-regulation and shared attention\n• Reading children’s arousal states\n• Under and over-responsiveness\n• Supporting children who find attention and engagement difficult to sustain\n• Adult attunement\, timing and responsiveness\n• Atypical development and relational support\n• Working together as adults to co-regulate within shared spaces \nThese webinars are particularly relevant for early years practitioners\, leaders\, SEND professionals and anyone interested in relational approaches to supporting children’s development.
