Special Guardianship Support

Support group

The post adoption and special guardianship team run a support group aimed at providing special guardians with both professional and peer support in addition to helping families’ access information and training opportunities. We hold the groups approx. 6 times a year throughout the county. The group welcomes all SGO carers and those going through the SGO process.

The groups are supported by the post adoption team and the looked after Childrens mental health team, we also arrange for guest speakers to cover topics of relevance for families. We hope to offer group training to families alongside the support groups.  There is a bulletin that goes out every two months. We welcome contributions to this!

The aim of the group is to be both supportive and collaborative, it is essential that families are actively involved in the group and the bulletin to allow us to respond to their needs in the most appropriate way.

All families need support from time to time, Special Guardianship families are no different, and we are here to help.

To access support the first thing that is needed is a referral:

There are three ways to make a referral:

To find out whether our service is the right one for you we will discuss your needs and decide if an assessment is required. There is no automatic entitlement to services however we will explore together what is needed. This might be through our team or through an alternative provision.

The next support group will be held on the:  22nd August

Place :Pen green Childrens centre ,108 Rockingham Rd, Corby NN17 1AG
Time: 10:30 -12:30

Please feel free to turn up!

If you could make me aware if you are attending and if you are bringing children that would be helpful .
